Knights of the Ring

Order of the Iron Ring

The Order of the Iron Ring was formed hundreds of years ago in response to the Half Crown Rebellion, a vicious war of succession between the true born heir and his younger half brother. Many innocents were harmed in the conflict, including many women and children.

History

The Half Crown Rebellion was a war of succession between Prince Philip Valles and his half-brother, Black Donovan Valles. The conflict was short and bloody, ending with the Battle of Conlen’s Hill and the surrender of Black Donovan’s forces. Donovan and his allies in the nobility were reprieved by the King in an effort to end the bloodshed, but many of the soldiers in his command were executed for their crimes against the people of Aquilar.

The Order of the Iron Ring was formed by a group of Knights who devoted their time to protecting the commoners caught in the crossfire of he conflict, often forming an “Iron Ring” around those in need or protection. To this day, they continue their goal to protect the powerless against those who would abuse their station.

Over the years, the Knights of the Ring evolved to patrolling the Marchlands and common trade routes to protect travelers against bandits and dangerous predators. Their original goals have mostly been forgotten.

Organization

  • Grandmaster: currently Sir Preston Ironheart of Green Hope. He is a brave and stout knight, now past his prime, who is still the source of many popular tavern tales and songs.
  • Marshall: The second in command is Sir Edwyn Blake of Lichfield. He is responsible as treasurer.
  • Master-at-Arms: The third in command is Sir Alan Greenstones of Bliss Hill.

The rest of the rank and file knights come from all over the kingdom. There are only a dozen knights in the order total.

The Iron Code

Knights of the Ring take an oath called the Iron Code.

Never violate a woman, nor harm a child.
Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men.
Protect the weak against the evil strong.
And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil.
