The Long Road
Where the Hafren River is joined by the Neth River at the town of Neth, the waterway turns from east to southeast. Predominately, the land north of the river is considered Areth and under the protection of the elven community. For whatever reason, the elves define their border at that point and do not continue south despite the continued reach of the trees.
The river forks in numerous places in Carlinwood, creating a marshy, swamp-like forest in many places. It is a very dangerous place for the unprepared, filled with monsters and disease. The most notable landmark in Carlinwood is the Black Rock, a small mountain in the middle of the wood. It is the highest vantage point in the region, although most explorers and hunters believe it to be nearly inaccessible due to the thick and tangled foliage.
Many people consider the Carlinwood to be haunted.
